About this site and who publishes it
Who publishes Thai Mushrooms, how the information is researched and checked, and why the product links on this site go to the Dutch smartshop Dutch-Smart.
Updated
Thai Mushrooms is published by the team behind the Dutch smartshop Dutch-Smart. Dutch-Smart sells the Thai grow kits and spores shown on this site, and every product link goes to that shop. When you buy through such a link, the shop earns from the sale.
We say this first because it affects how you should read the rest. The site exists because most of what is online about the Thai cultivar is either a spore vendor's sales text or a travel blog repeating rumours about island shakes. We wanted one place that keeps the cultivar, the country and the law apart, gives sources, and includes the parts that do not help sales: that the only lab measurement puts Thai at the low end of five cultivars, that the origin story cannot be checked, and that buying mushrooms in Thailand is a criminal offence.
How the pages are made
- Facts about the species, the Thai field records and the chemistry come from peer-reviewed publications, mainly the fieldwork of John W. Allen and colleagues and the 2024 laboratory study by Goff and colleagues. Each is linked where we use it.
- Legal statements come from the Thai Food and Drug Administration, Dutch legislation and Dutch public health sources such as the Trimbos Institute and the Jellinek. Every legal page carries the date it was checked.
- Shop descriptions are quoted as the shop's descriptions, marked as such.
- The trip reports are composites, labelled as such. We do not publish invented testimonials or reviews.
- We make no medical or health claims of any kind.
Pages show when they were last updated. Laws change and products sell out; if something here is wrong or out of date, Dutch-Smart's customer service can pass it on to us.
The shop behind the site

Dutch-Smart is a Dutch smartshop, established in 2011, that ships from the Netherlands and sells only to adults. Grow kits are legal to buy in the Netherlands; the law where you live decides whether you may order, import or grow one. Read the law page for Thailand, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States.
